“Impressed With How Deion [Sanders] Handled Himself”: Browns Analyst Speaks Out On Coach Prime Visiting Son Shedeur’s Training Camp

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders made a surprise visit to the Cleveland Browns’ training camp on Thursday, where his quarterback son Shedeur Sanders is competing with Deshaun Watson for the starting signal-caller role.

Sanders watched practice from the bleachers alongside his eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., and NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano. Later, he met with Shedeur on the field. Sanders also had a chat with Browns head coach Todd Monken between practice sessions.

NFL analyst Lance Reisland took note of Sanders’s visit and was impressed by the conduct of the Pro Football Hall of Famer, who watched over his son and even the Browns head coach.

“Todd Monken, being old like me, does not care that Deion’s there,” Reisland said. “That does not influence him whatsoever. That I know for sure. Now, it’s nice because I thought Monken had a human element to it because he’s like us. He’s like, ‘Oh, this is Deion Sanders. This is cool.’ It doesn’t affect how he’s coaching. Now, I will say this about practice: I was so impressed with Deion and how he handled himself.”

Reisland also shared that Sanders acted just like a normal father watching his son. His influence didn’t overshadow the purpose of training camp either, and the reporter noted that it was just any normal day.

After the training camp, Todd Monken shared insights from his small talk with Deion Sanders on the sidelines.

“It was really cool. I mean, Deion Sanders,” Monken said. “Are you kidding me? Forget that it’s Shedeur’s dad. I mean, first of ‌all, he ⁠did an unbelievable job with Shedeur, great kid. And obviously (Deion was) an elite football player, hell, baseball player. And then as a coach, I mean — wow. Everything that he’s achieved, that was awesome.”

When asked about the conversation itself, Sanders talked with the head coach from the lens of a “part coach, part father.”

“What a great job Shedeur’s done since I’ve been here in terms of his development. And so it was good,” Monken said.

Meanwhile, when approached by reporters for questions, Deion Sanders declined to speak with any of them, saying he has come here as a father to watch his son.

Based on Monken’s words and Reisland’s reporting, it appears that, despite Sanders’ presence, everything remained routine and professional.
