The search is on for the owner of a cat left behind on a TTC streetcar.
It is unclear if the animal was abandoned or accidentally left behind, but the rider who found the feline is hoping for a happy ending.
A post on the Toronto Reddit page on Thursday detailed the incident.
What happened?
“I got on the streetcar tonight and this very sweet baby was all alone,” the Redditor began.
“I asked the other passengers and nobody claimed her (haven’t confirmed gender I’m just going with she/her because vibes).”
The poster noted that a fellow passenger said they saw someone on the streetcar with either a wagon or cart with two animal carriers in it – one of which was empty.
The pet owner got off the streetcar but the other passenger didn’t notice the cat until a few stops later, according to the post.
“It sounds to me like maybe the cat got out by accident and the owner didn’t notice,” the hopeful animal lover wrote and also shared photos of the furry little angel.
“I suppose there’s a chance she was left on purpose, but I’m leading with compassion here and assuming this was accidental.”
They added: “I’d love to get this girl back home.”
Kick it off?
While the TTC driver was “told by control” to try to usher the cat off the streetcar and onto the road, she and the passenger opted for a different course of action.
“I carried her home in my arms and she was quite calm,” the poster detailed, adding the cat was fed, has a litter box to use and has already explored her rescuer’s home.
The poster noted that she tagged the TTC and Toronto pet rescue accounts to get word out on the animal but has not provided any updates on a possible reunion.
The Toronto Sun reached out to the transit system but did not hear back before publication.
The poster did update that she brought the cat to a vet where it was discovered the cat does not have a microchip.
“This is disappointing because it will be harder to find her owner, but we will keep trying!!!” the Good Samaritan added, noting TTC’s lost and found has their contact information.
“Hopefully the owner calls in!!!”
