Shedeur Sanders Wins Fans Over with His Leadership During Browns Training Camp
Sanders seemed sharper and more decisive with the Browns’ second-team offense on the opening day of training camp. Head coach Todd Monken also offered an update on Cleveland’s quarterback battle, confirming that Sanders and Deshaun Watson will continue sharing first-team reps.
The Browns have yet to announce a timeline for naming their starting quarterback, and the current plan is to give their starters preseason playing time.
Away from the competition, Sanders has embraced a mentorship role with rookie quarterback Taylen Green. After Tuesday’s practice, he stayed behind for additional work with Green, whose practice reps have been limited owing to a crowded QB room.
Sanders’ willingness to help the rookie quickly proved the type of teammate he has become.
The clip of the two quarterbacks working together resonated with fans, and some used it to push back against comments by former NFL head coach Rex Ryan, who earlier questioned whether Sanders understood the leadership responsibilities that come with being viewed as a potential franchise quarterback.

“Don’t let Rex Ryan see this. It’ll ruin his fake [expletives] narrative that Shedeur isn’t a good teammate or a leader in the locker room,” a fan wrote.
“This a good dude man.. I hate how people treat him,” another added.
Sanders’ path from superstar college quarterback to the NFL took an unexpected turn during the 2025 NFL Draft as he suffered a major slide. Once he joined the Browns, he faced another obstacle in earning playing time within a crowded quarterback room.
Sanders eventually took over as the starter later in the season, experiencing the usual growing pains of a rookie while finishing No. 37 in PFN’s QB Impact rankings. However, Sanders has shown enough promise to convince a section of supporters he has a legitimate shot at beating Watson for the Browns’ QB1 job.
Sanders’ willingness to mentor Green only enhanced his leadership caliber.
