Dodgers Called Favorites To Land Tarik Skubal By Top Insider

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal

The Detroit Tigers are expected to start approaching interested teams about Tarik Skubal in the next day or two, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Tigers' last loss put them four games back in the wild-card race, and entering play on Thursday, they sit 4 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. With time running out and the clock on Skubal ticking, it makes sense to trade him for a haul while they still can. Even though he is only a rental, the Tigers could get a decent return for him, and many contenders would love to add him to the rotation.

Plenty of teams will surely inquire about the two-time Cy Young Award winner, but not every team is going to have the front office willing to part with what the Tigers will be asking for. However, Passan called the Los Angeles Dodgers the favorites to land Skubal at this point.

"Teams that are in particular being cited by others as being the biggest threats, though, are the Milwaukee Brewers, who have a tremendous farm system, and of course the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the favorites at this point, and frankly have been since the possibility of Tarik Skubal getting traded first surfaced a couple of months ago," Passan said on SportsCenter on Wednesday.

The Dodgers are expecting Shohei Ohtani back in the rotation at some point this season. They are also expecting Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow back. Adding Skubal would essentially take one of those three out of the postseason rotation. That is a scary thought for the rest of the league. Andrew Friedman has never shied away from big moves if it brings the team closer to a championship.

Funny enough, the other big contender is the team that poses the biggest threat to the Dodgers' three-peat. The Brewers do not typically make moves like this, but insiders are reporting that they will be more aggressive than in years past in pursuit of their first championship. They won the most games in baseball last season and are on pace to win even more this year.
