One of the unexpected stories coming out of the Los Angeles Rams' training camp is the absence of backup offensive lineman Justin Dedich. Dedich, who has started a number of games for the team and played a major role in Matthew Stafford's MVP campaign when both Steve Avila and Kevin Dotson missed multiple games with injury, was a participant during OTAs this spring.

On Tuesday, Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed the reason behind Dedich's non-football injury status and his current absence. It turns out Dedich suffered "a hand accident" around the 4th of July and has been out since.
Sean McVay said today that OL Justin Dedich “had a hand accident around the Fourth of July, and so that's kind of what's keeping him out for now.” https://t.co/eBlV7T2UCN

In the meantime, rookie Keagen Trost, who is able to play all five offensive line positions, will get his shot to cement himself as a critical depth piece moving forward. It's unclear at this time what the exact incident was that caused the injury, as there is no current timetable for a return.
Dedich, a 2024 UDFA from USC, has played in 29 regular-season games, registering over 800 snaps in that span.
