A launch event for Soweto restaurant Sugar People almost had brakes put on it when thieves broke into the venue and looted the bar.

At 4am on Friday, a gang of four masked men broke in and made a beeline to the bar area, where they systematically loaded bottles of expensive alcohol into wheelie bins.
Because the business was getting ready for an event in the afternoon, the thieves were sure to find a lot more alcohol than they would have otherwise.
As they load the bin, you can hear them speaking Afrikaans, with the man in the green jacket seemingly calling the shots.

After loading all the alcohol on display, he looks around for other valuables worth taking, opting for a part of the beer pump would make for a good trophy.
The whole episode took less than nine minutes, ending with the ‘boss’ of the group telling pulling the bin: “Kom ons loop, bra!”
The restaurant on Vilakazi Street, a street famous for being the home to two Nobel Peace Prize laureates: the late struggle icon Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
On their social media, Sugar People Soweto posted the CCTV footage and wrote: “Well… this wasn’t on today’s opening checklist. Unfortunately, we were robbed this morning around 04:00 which has delayed our preparations. The good news? Nobody is giving up, and we’re getting everything back on track. We’ll be opening from 2:00 PM today and can’t wait to welcome you.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. See you this afternoon!”
