Every five-star recruit in the 2024 cycle received an updated evaluation by CBS Sports after two college seasons at their respective programs. The outlet graded progress for all 32 of these blue-chip prospects, looking to uncover which of the highly touted players are exceeding expectations and which still have questions to answer in 2026.
While reasons for their designations differ, former Gators' commits DJ Lagway and LJ McCray are both placed in the "in question" category by 247Sports college football writer Cooper Petagna. The article pinpoints injuries as the major setback for both players, emphasizing that talent is not an obstacle in their development.

Lagway's career at Florida never lived up to the five-star status, with injuries and inconsistent play preventing the celebrated signing from becoming a long-term answer at quarterback for the Orange and Blue. The Willis, Texas, native now begins again at Baylor, where he enters a pivotal season with the Bears.
With Lagway's departure, McCray now carries the torch for UF's 2024 recruiting class, with an outlook carrying a more optimistic, forward-looking tone. Petagna noted that defensive coordinator Brad White and the Florida staff expect the 6-foot-4-inch, 270-pound defensive end to become a significant contributor now that he is entering the fall healthy.
White's arrival renews confidence in McCray as the coach brings a reputation for developing defensive linemen. White helped bring two-time NFL Pro Bowler Josh Hines-Allen to Kentucky; overall, he has produced more than a dozen NFL draft picks.
When healthy, McCray has the potential to dramatically raise the Gators' defensive ceiling. Should he evolve into the force scouts projected he would be out of high school, Florida will be one step closer to fielding a top-25 defense in 2026.
