Led by president Bernd Nneuendorf, German Football Federation (DFB) top officials met with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff in the latest step towards the appointment of Jürgen Klopp as national team coach.

Klopp has been Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer since January 2025 and has a contract at the soft drinks makers until 2029.

He is now to become Germany coach in succession of Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned after a last 32 exit at the World Cup against Paraguay two weeks ago.

It is widely believed that Red Bull will release the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool out of his contract.

It was not clear whether the DFB may have to pay a fee or whether Klopp could work for Red Bull in the new capacity.

There was no immediate reaction from either side after the meeting but the DFB released a statement last week after Neuendorf and his deputy Hans-Joachim Watzke met with Klopp in New York.

The DFB said after that meeting that "an agreement was reached on the key points of a potential contract."

It is also expected that Mintzlaff and Klopp will meet around Sunday's World Cup final in New Jersey. Mintzlaff is said to be present, and Klopp will be there in his function as a MagentaTV World Cup pundit.

If all talks are successful, a final agreement between the DFB and Klopp and his official presentation could come next week after his return to Germany.

Germany next matches are in late September and early October, four Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece (twice).
