Due to the fact the Buccaneers have dragged their feet in re-signing quarterback Baker Mayfield this offseason, rumors of every size, shape, and color have polluted a news cycle that should have a very different focus. Heading into 2026, Tampa Bay football could easily be framed as re-taking the divison they have owned over the last half-decade. It could be about Todd Bowles’ tenure with the franchise— The remaining leash of that tenure. Still, the emphasis is on the most important position which, to this point, the Buccaneers have no plan for beyond the 2026 season.

Recently, another franchise whose history has boasted roughly as many franchise quarterbacks as a barber has bald clients, has been mentioned in conjunction with the Buccaneers and their quarterback quandary. The Cleveland Browns, a model of what it is supposed to look like at the NFL level, have speculation about the possibility of moving their young quarterback Shedeur Sanders via trade.

Sanders’ status in Cleveland isn’t necessarily shaky, it’s just very up in the air the way. In theory, a team like Tampa could swoop and nab him if they viewed him as a beneficial future option. The claim, originally made by PFSN’s Cooper Kleinberg, gained some traction and was bantered about where it ultimately saw a fairly demonstrative critique from Pewter Plank as a story arch that has lost the plot a bit—

Shedeur Sanders in Tampa Bay does provide some interesting discussion points— Some of the most intriguing may actually revolve around whether or not a move like this could involve his father as a coach. Baker Mayfield and Todd Bowles in 2026 becoming Shedeur and Deion Sanders in 2027 would be a major franchise overhaul. Adding Shedeur to the Todd Bowles-regime would mean Bowles would have coached both of Deion’s sons could be another fun junk food-storyline for Buccaneers’ football to focus on.

How realistic is the option of Shedeur Sanders in Tampa Bay?

Likely not very.

Do we truly know for sure?

Technically, no.

Is this the kind of nonsensical drama-laden headline your team has to put up with when you don’t re-sign the face of your organization at its most important position?
