Major drug bust in Cape Town’s Long Street

Two men have been arrested after Western Cape police confiscated more than 250 ecstasy tablets during a drug operation in Cape Town’s Long Street.

The arrests were made on Friday night, 3 July, as part of Operation Prosper, an ongoing initiative aimed at removing drugs from communities across the province.

Tip-off leads to first arrest

According to police, officers acted on information about a suspect allegedly selling drugs in Long Street.

Members searched the identified premises and the suspect, discovering 108 ecstasy tablets, which were confiscated.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of drugs.

Second suspect arrested

During the same operation, police searched another premises in Long Street where they found a further 144 ecstasy tablets.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs after the tablets were seized.

In total, officers confiscated 252 ecstasy tablets during the operation.

Court appearance

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 July, where they will face charges relating to the possession of drugs.

Western Cape police said the arrests form part of continued efforts to disrupt the illegal drug trade and remove narcotics from the province’s streets.
