Ben Rice hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to give New York a lead it wouldn’t relinquish in a 5-2 victory on Friday night. Trent Grisham drove in two runs with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly, and Gerrit Cole struck out seven in five effective innings as the Yankees stopped their longest losing streak since dropping nine in a row in August 2023.

Kody Clemens got the Twins on the board with a first-inning home run, and Victor Caratini cut their deficit to 3-2 with an RBI single in the fourth. Mike Paredes took the loss, throwing 81 pitches while allowing three runs in four innings. Minnesota played without center fielder Byron Buxton for the fourth straight game due to a right hip impingement.

The Yankees will call up rookie Brendan Beck to make his first career start after placing left-hander Carlos Rodón on the 15-day injured list on Friday with inflammation in his left elbow. Beck worked three innings of relief back on May 7, allowing two runs on two hits. Minnesota gives the ball to right-hander Zebby Matthews (4-5), who enters with a 4.15 ERA and 1.136 WHIP in nine starts and 56.1 innings.
