Ranking LeBron James landing spots based on Rich Paul's whiteboard reveal

On an episode of the "Game Over" podcast with Rich Paul and Max Kellerman, the Klutch Sports agency founder spoke surprisingly candidly about potential free agency destinations for his client LeBron James.

LeBron instructed Paul to "talk to everyone" interested in signing him as a free agent and to let him to know the options from there. While each franchise has varying amounts of money to offer the four-time NBA Finals MVP, he is reportedly willing to accept a minimum contract to join a contender.

Paul said on "Game Over" earlier this week that he spoke to "12-14" teams about potentially teaming up next season. On the latest episode, he used a whiteboard to map out ten teams with mutual interest.

Here are the best fits based on the team included on Paul's whiteboard:

1. Golden State Warriors

There is still no stronger pitch to lure LeBron than playing alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for Steve Kerr in a location with extreme proximity to his family nearby in California. Warriors owner Joe Lacob has a convincing argument to LeBron for assembling a team of like-minded players capable of winning together.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron could return home to join Donovan Mitchell (who was at The Decision when the former Cavaliers star announced he was leaving Cleveland to sign with the Heat in 2010) as well as James Harden, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. That's a pretty convincing roster for contention, especially in his hometown. LeBron also has a familiar with the ownership group and executives Koby Altman and Brandon Weems.

3. Philadelphia 76ers

According to Rich Paul: How could the 76ers not have LeBron's attention when they have Tyrese Maxey as well as Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and V.J. Edgecombe? Paul also praised Philadelphia executives James Nelson and Mike Gansey, who played high school basketball in Ohio at the same time as LeBron.

4. Miami Heat

It's impossible to not consider how much stronger the Miami Heat would look with a LeBron return. He could play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Davion Mitchell under his former head coach Erik Spoelstra. This would turn Miami from likely contenders to potential Eastern Conference favorites.

5. San Antonio Spurs

Paul didn't spend a ton of time talking about the San Antonio Spurs during his podcast appearance. However, as the current face of the league, LeBron could pass the torch to the player most likely to take over that role with Victor Wembanyama. There is a strong supporting cast with Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and De'Aaron Fox. This team could easily win a championship.

6. Denver Nuggets

Of course, we would love to see LeBron play alongside Nikola Jokić. The basketball IQ pairing on that court is genuinely unbelievable. They would also have Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon as well as Cameron Johnson with restricted free agent Peyton Watson. LeBron reportedly has a familiarity with the Denver ownership group and Kroenke family.

7. Minnesota Timberwolves

From a basketball perspective, this one is actually pretty fun. LeBron next to Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert has a lot of talent. There is also a mutual respect with executive Tim Connelly. They would immediately become one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

8. New York Knicks

If the Knicks hadn't won a championship last season, per Paul, this would fall at No. 1 overall. Still, there is a level of interest there. There are still connections to William Wesley and LeBron's former agent Leon Rose as well as his former head coach Mike Brown. Maybe there isn't a fit going to a team that just won a title, but LeBron trying to win a title in New York would still be appointment TV.

9. Dallas Mavericks

What better way for the Mavericks to start the Masai Ujiri era than by signing LeBron James as a mentor for Cooper Flagg, who he has praised in the past? LeBron would be able to play golf in Texas, which is clearly a priority for him. Dallas wasn't mentioned much in the podcast episode, but otherwise, Paul didn't mention much about the fit.

10. Boston Celtics

Paul simply and briefly mentioned "Brad and Tatum" as a nod to Brad Stevens and Jayson Tatum. Even though there is clearly enough interest to put the legendary franchise on the whiteboard, it still feels it's like the least interesting fit among those included.
