Could Bucks Be in a Better Position Than Expected After Giannis Trade?
· Yahoo Sports
The Milwaukee Bucks took a big step for the future of their franchise by trading away Giannis Antetokounmpo and it's a step that has set them up for future success in a way they wouldn't have been able to accomplish had they tried to build around Antetokounmpo instead.
By trading Antetokounmpo, they received Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware and Kaspraras Jakucionis in return along with the 13th-overall pick in the 2026 draft, which anded them Nate Ament.

That haul alone has given them a plethora of new, young players for head coach Taylor Jenkins to work with and provides access to a skillset that the Bucks deeply needed, that being scoring.

While the Bucks were in the middle of the pack when it came to field goal percentage and actually had the second-best three point percentage in the league, they struggled translate that efficiency into actual points with the second worst average points per game in the league.
That lack of aggressiveness and shot creation stemmed from the Bucks being so reliant on Antetokounmpo to be the central engine of the offense and when he was off the court, either for rest during games or because of injuries, they found themselves lost without a consistent scheme to stick to.

Adding another shooter in Herro and a versatile playmaker like Jaquez Jr. into the mix adds a lot of options to what the Bucks are going to be able to do and as result the new focal point of the team, Ryan Rollins, will be surrounded by a roster suited to compliment his skillset and facilitate scoring even more.
Impactful SizeAdding Ware, who's a rising star at center, into the lends some size to the roster and gives Myles Turner a valuable backup option for switch-ins while the Bucks' two first-round picks, Ament and Brayden Burries, both showed in their college years that they can slot into a system and become effective scorers in their own right.

This new, young core of players in Milwaukee should promise a much faster team that, if given the right scheme, can move the rock with far more fluidity and make aggressiveness on offense their brand.
Defensively, Ament and Ware should make things difficult for opposing offenses and on top of this all, the Bucks were able to make this trade with only including Bobby Portis anyone else, so the Bucks have options in Kyle Kuzma and Kevin Porter Jr. to work with as well.
Kel’el Ware may just be the X-Factor. 👀

What they have now is a far stronger team than anything they've put around Antetokounmpo since originally bringing Damian Lilalrd on board and while they aren't likely to rocket to the top of the Eastern Conference anytime soon, there's at least a strong foundation to build on that frankly wasn't going to exist with Antetokounmpo on the team.
