The New York Mets parted ways with manager Carlos Mendoza on Friday and one name quickly emerged as a potential candidate for the position next year.

According to SNY's John Harper, MLB legend and future Hall of Fame slugger Albert Pujols has recently told friends that he would "very much want" to manage the Mets. As noted by Harper, the 11-time MLB All-Star managed the Dominican Republic during the World Baseball Classic.

Mets star Juan Soto played for Pujols during the World Baseball Classic and the two reportedly have a "very strong relationship" with each other.

Here is what Soto said about working alongside Pujols:

"It’s truly incredible having a legend like Albert in the clubhouse, leading every single one of us as our manager. He’s been in our shoes and truly understands how we feel, how the pieces move on the field, every swing we take, every decision we make. He’s right there with us through it all, and that makes it something truly special and beautiful."

Justin Rocke, the play-by-play announcer for the Brooklyn Cyclones, added that Pujols brought along Mets first base and outfield coach Gilbert Gómez as his associate manager during the WBC.

Pujols reportedly thought he would get selected by the Mets in the ninth round of the 1999 MLB Draft.

The 3-time NL MVP interviewed to manage the Los Angeles Angels in 2025 and has said it "wont be long" until he is managing an MLB franchise.
