Are the Boston Celtics actually going to move on from Jaylen Brown?
It feels crazy to say, in a sense, given what he and Jayson Tatum have done over the past few years, but all indications now point to a potential trade after they failed to land Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to the latest report from Brian Windhorst, while this might have sounded crazy just a few months ago, given the Celtics were arguably the best team in the Eastern Conference without Tatum playing and Brown being the top option, he now expects a bidding war for the former Finals MVP.
“What I expect to happen, is a bidding war for Jaylen Brown,” Windhorst said. “In the most recent days, teams have been preparing for this eventuality. That it wouldn’t be the Boston Celtics who won the Giannis sweepstakes and that there would be a Jaylen Brown market, and now we’re going to watch that. I think it’ll take time to play out, but if there is a draft pick involved, it could happen today.”
Windhorst said this before the NBA Draft, which happened on Tuesday, at least the first round, so there isn't going to be a first-round pick attached in that offer.
However, that doesn't mean the Celtics aren't looking for draft capital in the future. Brown, one of the better players in the NBA, should go for a significant draft haul and get the Celtics something back that they want in return.
