During the presentation, Prof. Nanda elaborated on an advanced concept titled “Autonomous, Unitary System for Inspection and Monitoring of Permanent Way using Multiple Sensors, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins.” The proposed system envisages continuous assessment of track health through intelligent sensor networks, AI-enabled predictive analysis, enabling proactive maintenance and data-driven decision making. Such technology has the potential to significantly improve asset management, optimise maintenance resources, enhance operational reliability and further strengthen railway safety standards.
Addressing the gathering, the GM of NFR emphasized the importance of embracing emerging technologies to build a safer, smarter and more sustainable railway system. He noted that technological innovation and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand to meet the future requirements of railway transportation. The event highlighted NFR’s commitment towards leveraging innovation and technologies to enhance railway safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability.
During the conference, NFR also commemorated the World Environment Day 2026 by screening a short film showcasing the various environmental initiatives undertaken across the zone, including extensive railway electrification, promotion of solar energy, energy conservation measures, water management, waste reduction initiatives, plantation drives and adoption of eco-friendly practices across divisions, workshops and offices. These initiatives reflect NFR’s sustained efforts towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting green transportation system in the NE region.
NFR remains committed towards adopting innovative technologies and environmentally responsible practices that contribute to sustainable growth. By combining advanced digital solutions with its ongoing green initiatives, NFR continues to strengthen its role as a modern, environmentally conscious railway system dedicated to providing safe, efficient and sustainable railway transportation services to the people of NE region and beyond.
