Falcons sign former Saints punter following minicamp tryout

· Yahoo Sports

The Atlanta Falcons signed former New Orleans Saints punter Matthew Hayball to the roster after wrapping up their mandatory minicamp on Thursday afternoon. Hayball, a former undrafted free agent who played in all 17 games for the Saints in 2024, won't count against the roster due to being the Falcons' designated international player.

"Hayball was one of six players the Falcons invited to try out during minicamp, and he showed enough to earn a roster spot ahead of the team's training camp in late July," wrote Falcons reporter Will McFadden. "Born in West Adelaide, Australia, Hayball played college football at Florida Atlantic and Vanderbilt."

During his lone season with the Saints, Hayball attempted 75 punts for 3,303 yards (44.0 yards per attempt). However, the 29-year-old did not make New Orleans' 53-man roster out of training camp last season. Hayball clearly made a good impression during minicamp.

The Falcons signed veteran Jake Bailey over the offseason to replace punter Bradley Pinion, although Hayball should be in the mix if he can perform well enough in training camp. Atlanta also signed wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr., defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell and edge rusher Keshawn Banks.
