Midfielder decides against 2026 Real Madrid transfer

Real Madrid have been very busy over the last few weeks, with four signings having already been wrapped up. Earlier this week, Marc Cucurella joined Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries in having agreed a Bernabeu move, and soon, Bernardo Silva will become the latest player to head to the Spanish capital after the 2026 World Cup.

But that will not be the end of Real Madrid’s business. Further signings are wanted, and it is not ruled out that another midfielder arrives before the end of the summer, although it is very unlikely that Nico Paz is the one to join.
For months, it has been taken for granted that Paz will return to the Bernabeu. Real Madrid had planned to activate the €9m buy-back clause in their agreement with Como, but with the arrival of Jose Mourinho as their new head coach, the situation has changed. According to Sport, the 21-year-old has decided not to re-join Los Blancos, and instead, he will remain in Italy for another season.
Why has Paz rejected Real Madrid return?

As per the report, Paz has decided to stay at Como because he does not see himself having a place in the Mourinho’s squad. The expected arrival of Silva would mean the Argentine has even more competition in his bid to play as an attacking midfielder, with Real Madrid already having the likes of Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz as options.
From his perspective, it is smart for Paz to stay at Como for another season, given that he would continue being their talisman. It also works out for Real Madrid, as he will continue to develop in the Serie A and Champions League before finally returning to the Bernabeu next summer, when he can be brought back for the slightly higher price of €10m.
