Fever Riding Sophie Cunningham’s Hot Hand On Win Streak Earns Major Praise From Teammates
· Yahoo Sports
Sophie Cunningham was a major factor in the Indiana Fever’s 113-91 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Tuesday night. She scored a season-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-7 from three off the bench, to propel the Fever to victory. In the process, she tied her career high with six three-pointers made.
Cunningham’s incredible play has certainly been noticed by her teammates, as they had some kind words to say about her after the game.

“Swaggggg.”

Sophie Cunningham certainly deserved the praise from her teammates, as her efficient shooting helped the Fever secure their fourth straight win of the season. Though the game turned into a blowout, Cunningham’s offensive performance was particularly important given that she is still trying to find her footing in a reduced role this season. She is averaging 22.5 minutes (a career low since the 2022 season).
She goes long stretches without scoring before catching fire. But in the last two games, she’s done more of the little things we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, shooting the three and being fearless on both ends of the court.
Things look to have somewhat improved now, but they are still far from ideal for the veteran guard. Cunningham has only started three games this season but has been relatively steady coming off the bench. She also poured in 11 points in the final two minutes of an 85-75 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
Sophie Cunningham Needs To Stay Consistent For Minutes
Sophie Cunningham didn’t necessarily stand out as a player struggling all that much through the first month of the campaign. Some early growing pains are expected when you’re coming off an injury and trying to regain your rhythm. The reality, though, is that apart from Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston, the rest of the rotation is still very much up for grabs.
One clear indicator is that Cunningham has played with more confidence over the last few games. She has shown what she is capable of, and the volume with which she has been firing lately (career-high 51.2% shooting) is a positive sign. The biggest question, however, is whether Cunningham can stay consistent for the rest of the season. While she has looked good in recent games, Indiana is going to be leaning on her heavily throughout the year. It is also clear that she has earned the trust of head coach Stephanie White, which means she will likely continue to see steady minutes.
