What to know about LSU baseball transfer Jason Wachs
· Yahoo Sports
LSU baseball added to its transfer portal class on Sunday, securing a commitment from former Tulane outfielder Jason Wachs. The in-state outfielder was LSU's fifth addition of the transfer cycle, with four of those commitments being position players.
Wachs was the second outfielder to commit to LSU, joining Notre Dame transfer Bino Watters. Wachs and Watters were both ranked among the best outfielders in the transfer portal and should be immediate contributors for LSU as the Tigers need to replace significant production in the outfield. Derek Curiel and Jake Brown are likely both turning pro, and veteran Chris Stanfield is gone, too.

Wachs, entering his third year of college baseball, was a two-year starter at Tulane. He's already proven he can hit at a high level.
Here's what LSU baseball fans should know about LSU's newest outfielder, Jason Wachs.
Wachs was a two-year difference-maker for Tulane
Wachs arrived at Tulane in 2025 and carved out a starting job as a true freshman. Wachs hit .335 in 2025, while posting a .457 on-base rate and scoring 46 runs. In 2026, as a sophomore, Wachs slugged .574 with a .453 on-base percentage. In two years with the Green Wave, Wachs hit .331 with 122 hits. LSU made it a point to look for proven veterans in the transfer portal and the Tigers found one with Wachs.
Wachs is a complete, well-rounded hitter
Wachs is yet to reach double-digit home runs in a single season, but he's a complete and all-around hitter. Wachs smashed 21 doubles in 2026 while walking as many times as he struck out. LSU's lineup failed to string consistent at-bats together in 2026 -- it doesn't appear like that's a problem for Wachs. And while he's not a double-digit homer guy, the power took a step forward in 2026 with Wachs going from three homers as a freshman to nine in his sophomore campaign.
Where Wachs ranks in the transfer portal class
Per 64Analytics, Wachs is the No. 32-ranked transfer portal player in the class. He's a premium addition for Jay Johnson and staff.
Wachs will likely play center field for LSU
With Derek Curiel likely off to the pros, Wachs figures to be LSU's next center fielder. Wachs was a productive defender for Tulane in CF. That would leave William Patrick and Bino Watters occupying the corner outfield spots.
