Levi Kitchen makes dramatic pass on teammate Seth Hammaker for 250 Moto 1 win

LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates Seth Hammaker and Levi Kitchen finished first and second in 250 Moto 1 at Thunder Valley Motocross Park to pad their points lead in the Pro Motocross championship.

With Hammaker winning the opening round at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, and Kitchen winning last week in Rancho Cordova, California, Pro Circuit has swept the season so far.

Hammaker put last week's Moto 2 difficulty behind him with the early lead of Moto 1 at Thunder Valley. Hammaker crashed in Turn 1 of the second moto, but rallied to finish ninth and salvage third overall.

Hammaker had a chip on his shoulder entering this moto and he charged out of the gate to earn the holeshot. He led most of the race until a heart-stopping pass with two laps remaining by Kitchen forced him to give up the position.

Julien Beaumer and Nick Romano were their early competition, but both riders fell off the podium before the checkers waved.

Jo Shimoda crashed early in the race, but found his flow and rode to a distant third, He was more than 15 seconds behind the leader at the checkers.

Haiden Deegan penalized seven positions for cutting Thunder Valley track in Moto 1Jorge Prado and Hunter Lawrence were also penalized for cutting the track.

Romano fell back to fifth, but moved up a position when Michael Mosiman crashed out of the third position late in the race.

Sacha Coenen crashed twice on the opening laps and fell outside the top 25. He clawed his way to 15th.
