There was a post circulating on social media recently that suggested Lauren Betts would be out of the WNBA within two years.

Betts, the Washington Mystics' rookie center out of UCLA, is too cognizant of her mental health to spend time reading silly takes like that. But on Friday night, she played like someone who had seen it.

The 6-foot-7 Betts had a career night off the bench, dropping 18 points for the Mystics.

She was 8-for-9 from the floor, along with 2-for-2 at the foul line. Betts added four rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Clearly, there are going to be games where the interior presence of Betts is more crucial, and there are going to be games where everything gets spaced out a bit more and maybe she plays a bit less.

There's no questioning her overall talent, though, and with Kiki Iriafen missing in action due to a right ankle injury, Betts showed her upside.

At her best, she simply gets position inside and scores. There are few that can stop that.

Her special outing also came in an 86-85 win over the Toronto Tempo, with the Mystics needing every one of those points.

The night was capped by Sonia Citron's buzzer beater. The young star Citron only shot 6-for-16, but she made the final shot when it counted.

The Mystics have an intriguing mix of young talent, and even if Betts doesn't become a star, Washington could still be a solid team for years to come.

If Betts has more nights where she shoots 8-for-9, though, look out -- a Mystics team with its young perimeter talent coupled with Betts, Iriafen and Shakira Austin inside? That could be tough to handle.
