The Chicago White Sox, for the first time in over four years, have found themselves in first place in the American League Central division.
They're not only a legitimate postseason contender this year, they actually have a chance to win the division. In such a good spot, it should come as no surprise that this team is eyeing some help to the roster at the MLB trade deadline.
MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com linked the White Sox to upgrades in the outfield, bullpen, and the rotation. Specifically in the rotation, Murray linked 4.00 ERA Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers as a trade deadline target.
White Sox linked to trade for Reid Detmers from Angels
"Perhaps they can snag a pitcher from the Red Sox or, say, a Reid Detmers from the Angels or a Michael Wacha from the Royals," Murray writes.
The White Sox are expected to buy at this year's trade deadline, and it's clear this team could use rotation help. But, they're expected to have a much smaller pool of pitchers to target.
Unlike other top contenders, who might pursue Freddy Peralta, Tarik Skubal, and Robbie Ray, the White Sox are more likely to go after someone like Detmers, who is under club control beyond 2026.

Detmers, the 26-year-old pitcher from the Angels, is under club control through the 2028 season, meaning the White Sox would get him for the rest of 2026, all of 2027, and all of 2028 if they traded for him this season.
While this team is ready to compete now, they shouldn't mortgage their future for a rental. Buying is one thing, but spending on a rental who would be a free agent after just a few months doesn't fit the timeline for Chicago.
It might be a little more challenging to find pitchers who fit this mold, but that's why Detmers, who has a 4.00 ERA this season in 14 starts, would be a great fit in Chicago.
