A 38-year-old Oshawa man is facing several charges in relation to an au pair sexual assault investigation.
Durham Regional Police say in 2025, a female was contacted by a man and woman with several children through a Facebook Au Pair group, informally about au pair work in Canada.
The alleged victim arrived in Canada in December 2025 and agreed to live with the suspect and his spouse at their home, in exchange for child care services.
Cops say on Dec. 12, 2025, the suspect gave the woman ice cream. Upon consuming it, she reportedly began feeling incoherent and became unconscious.
Upon waking up, she sought medical attention and a noxious drug was found in her system. She had no recollection of the night prior, authorities noted.
Durham cops executed a search warrant in early 2026 at the suspect’s Oshawa home. Several electronic devices and the drug allegedly used in the incident were seized. Child sexual abuse and exploitation materials were also found during the search.
On Wednesday, investigators arrested 38-year-old Derek Stephen Bellamy of Oshawa.
Bellamy is charged with sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, five counts of voyeurism, five counts of possession of recordings obtained by voyeurism, possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Hewas held pending a bail hearing.
