Dale Deon, former junior and semi-pro hockey player, jailed for child porn and sex trafficking

A former junior hockey player from Georgetown who also competed at the Ontario university level and semi-professionally was sentenced last week to seven-and-a-half years in prison on a variety of charges including child sexual abuse and exploitation material, making that material available, and human trafficking.

Dale Deon , a former Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defenceman, previously played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) as well as for Nipissing University and Brock University.

Following his university play, Deon also competed in the Federal Prospects Hockey League and the SPHL — formerly the Southern Professional Hockey League — between 2018 and 2025.

Thousands of images and videos uncovered

Police said they uncovered a large quantity of child sexual abuse images and videos. Investigators found as many as 26,000 images and 3,000 videos, according to CTV News .

In an agreed statement of facts filed in court, the material was described as being the most severe on a scale used to classify child sexual abuse material.

The court hearing took place in Brantford, Ont., last Friday after Deon admitted to possessing and sharing child sexual abuse material and forcing a woman to perform sexual services for money, according to the report.

Police were contacted in 2025

“According to an agreed statement of facts filed in court, the Brantford Police Service began investigating the 33-year-old Deon after a complainant contacted police on June 28, 2025, and told officers that Deon had child pornography on his computer.”

Members of the Brantford Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed search warrants at Deon’s residence on Aug. 19, 2025, where they seized several electronic devices, including cell phones, laptops and external hard drives.

In the article, forensic search by police revealed several file folders with titles indicative of child pornography were also seized.

“During a bail hearing in Brantford court on Oct. 25, 2025, Crown Attorney Renee Mahoney said that Deon had told investigators that he started watching child pornography in his 20s and that it ‘was like watching a car accident. It’s hard to look away.’”

Deon pleaded guilty to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, making that material available, human trafficking, procuring, receiving a financial or material benefit from human trafficking, and breaching a release order.
