UND cut its men's and women's tennis programs last month.
"I'm excited to have coach Boysen as a member of our coaching staff," Eastern Kentucky athletic director Kyle Moats said. "He is a well-respected coach who will fit well in the Richmond and EKU community. He has a proven track record of success, and his experience will greatly benefit our team. Most importantly, he is a high-character person who will represent EKU with class."
Boysen and UND assistant Kyle Anderson turned the Fighting Hawks into a perennial contender in the Summit League.
Both the men's and women's programs reached the Summit League final this spring.
The men reached the Summit League final in back-to-back years. The women reached the Summit League final twice in Boysen's five years in Grand Forks.
UND cut its tennis programs as a budgetary move.
Several other Division-I schools cut tennis this spring including Arkansas, St. Louis and Illinois State, a fellow Summit League member. Arkansas has since reinstated tennis.
Eastern Kentucky plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Other members include North Alabama, Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, North Florida, Bellarmine, Austin Peay, Queens and Central Arkansas (women's only).
