The Patriots officially acquired Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown on Monday, sending a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia. Barstool Sports founder and dedicated Boston sports fan Dave Portnoy is absolutely thrilled about this move.

"The Patriots may score 40 a game this year," Portnoy wrote Monday on X. "Weapons everywhere. "Best QB in football. Best coach in football. Great defense. Lots to be excited about."

Portnoy may be getting a bit ahead of himself by predicting 40 points per game, but he’s absolutely onto something regarding the excitement this offense could bring this season. Last season, New England boasted one of the top offenses in the NFL, and it accomplished that without Brown. While the Patriots did have Stefon Diggs, who had a nice season, Brown certainly brings a higher level of talent at this point in their careers.

Quarterback Drake Maye is heading into his third NFL season. After his impressive performance last year β€” throwing for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns, finishing as a runner-up for MVP β€” there's plenty to look forward to now that he has one of the top 15 receivers in the league to throw to.

The Patriots should be fun to watch again this season, and they might not have a better record since going 14-3 back-to-back seasons is hard to do. Still, they could be a better team overall with Maye possibly taking another big leap this season and bringing in Brown and even free-agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
