Police have released images of a necklace and jacket in the hopes of identifying a male homicide victim whose body was found over the weekend in a downtown parking lot.

Toronto Police said the appeal for information is linked to an incident on Saturday at about 9:30 a.m. in the Dundas-Seaton Sts. area of Cabbagetown, where they responded to a medical complaint.

Police said that officers were flagged down to assist with an unresponsive person who was found on a laneway inside a private garage.

They said the victim had obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim erroneously identified as female

A post-mortem examination ruled that the victim’s death was the result of a homicide.

“The victim was initially identified as a woman in error,” police said in a news release on Tuesday afternoon, adding that the homicide and missing persons unit was investigating.

“Investigators have since confirmed the victim is male.”

Police said the victim is about 5-foot-6 and has a medium build, dark hair and dark eyes. They said the victim was possibly of Asian descent.

Cops also released two images: One of a silver necklace attached to a silver heart-shaped pendant with wings on the side and a clear stone in the centre; and the other of a black jacket with a “Vision Youth Leaders Program” logo on it.

The logo seems to match the one used by Vision Youth , a Markham-based organization that was founded in 2001 and complements the “regular school academic curriculum to help our youth to develop life skills.”

An email seeking a comment from Vision Youth — including whether they had been contacted by police to help spread the word on identifying the victim — was not immediately returned.

This was Toronto’s 10th homicide of the year.

Anyone with information about the identity of the victim or the investigation in general is asked to contact police at 416-808-5100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 or 222tips.com .
