The Spurs had opened the series with Wembanyama looking unstoppable, but Oklahoma City has since made life harder by turning the matchup into a more physical, crowded, and demanding test.
After San Antonio’s 123-108 loss, Wembanyama admitted that his issue was not only about scoring or rebounding. He felt he was not lifting the players around him enough.

ESPN NBA shared Victor Wembanyama’s honest reaction after the San Antonio Spurs fell behind 2-1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Wembanyama said, “I feel like I have trouble making my teammates better right now. … I need to be more of a team player.”
The quote stood out because Wembanyama still led the Spurs with 26 points in Game 3, but the overall impact was not close to what San Antonio needed from its franchise star.
He finished with only four rebounds, while Oklahoma City’s depth and defensive pressure helped flip the game after the Spurs jumped out to a fast start.
The Thunder won 123-108 at Frost Bank Center, taking back home-court advantage behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 26 points and a huge bench performance.
Victor Wembanyama faces Oklahoma City Thunder adjustment after Game 3 exposes San Antonio Spurs offense
Wembanyama’s frustration made sense because the Spurs’ offense became too dependent on difficult possessions once Oklahoma City settled into the game.
San Antonio opened with a 15-0 run, but the Thunder responded with pressure, pace, and depth that eventually wore the Spurs down.
Oklahoma City’s bench outscored San Antonio’s reserves 76-23, which made every Wembanyama possession feel even more important as the game moved away from the Spurs.
The Thunder have also made the series more physical around him, forcing San Antonio to find cleaner ways to get him touches and punish help defense.
That is where Wembanyama’s comment about making teammates better becomes important. If he can draw bodies and create easier looks for Devin Vassell, De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and the rest of the rotation, the Spurs have a better chance of preventing Oklahoma City from loading up on him.
Game 3 did not expose a lack of talent from Wembanyama. It showed the next playoff lesson for a young superstar who now has to turn defensive attention into rhythm for everyone else.
