Jacob Ebert named to Class A all-state second team for MHS baseball

May 19—MITCHELL — Senior pitcher Jacob Ebert was selected to represent the Mitchell High School spring baseball team on the Class A all-state second team by the South Dakota High School Baseball Association on Tuesday.

Ebert pitched 27 2/3 innings with a 4-1 record in five starts, recording a 1.51 earned-run average and 22 strikeouts. He was also tabbed as one of three all-region performers for the Kernels by the SDHSBA on Monday.
Mitchell finished the spring with a 14-13 overall record, falling in the regional qualifying round as the No. 11 seed to No. 6 Pierre, which swept the best-of-three series.
Eleven different programs were represented on the Class A all-state first team, including Sioux Falls Washington, Brandon Valley, Rapid City Stevens and Yankton with two picks apiece. Including the second-team selections, Yankton and Harrisburg had the most total all-state players with four each, as Pierre and Sioux Falls Lincoln both had three apiece.
Joining Ebert on the all-region honor list were fellow senior Jaxson Hartman and junior Lincoln Bottum.
Hartman, who was listed as a utility player, had 16 hits with a .327 batting average in addition to 14 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Bottum, who primarily played third base, tallied 21 hits with a .344 batting average while tacking on 12 runs scored and 11 RBIs. He also drew 13 walks.
Harrisburg, Brandon Valley, Sioux Falls Jefferson and Yankton — the top four seeded teams in the Class A playoffs — led the division with five selections apiece on the 60-player honor list.
