We all remember just how dominant that 2019-2020 Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball team was before COVID-19 struck down the season ahead of conference tournaments. One key figure who still holds that team close to his heart is Barstool Big Cat who recently got his hands on a piece of Florida State history.

The historic “NCAA Canceled #4 Final Ranking” banner that the Seminoles hoisted to the rafters following the season's end.

Big Cat, also known as Dan Katz, has had his eye on the banner for some time now and finally made the news public on his podcast, “Pardon My Take.” His guest at the time was two-time U.S. Open and two-time PGA Championship winner, Brooks Koepka, who played collegiate golf in Tallahassee for the Noles.

A clip of his podcast talking about the banner was posted to his X account. Not even an hour after it was posted, current Seminoles head coach, Luke Loucks, commented: “We will make this happen.”

It was inevitable that after coach Loucks commented that Big Cat would act on this and made his way to Tallahassee, where he finally secured the banner to bring back to the Barstool offices in Chicago.

How good was the 2019-2020 Florida State team?

Former head coach Leonard Hamilton led a team made up of Devin Vassell, Patrick Williams, and other NBA prospects to a 26-5 record and the top seed in the ACC tournament before it was called off. Prior to the conference tournament being canceled, the Noles were the top overall seed ahead of Duke, North Carolina, and other ACC powerhouses at the time.

They even earned praises from the legendary Dick Vitale, who stated that he would’ve picked the Seminoles to win the National Championship had March Madness not been canceled. He even co-authored a book called “The Lost Season,” where he projected a fantasy bracket and had FSU cutting down the nets.

FSU went from being unranked in the preseason to the no. 4 ranked team to finish the year and created one of the most prized pieces of sports memorabilia in modern history.
