The Storm took a significant step toward answering the question Tuesday, May 12, earning the NCHSAA 4A state title at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines.
It was Stuart Cramer’s second state championship in a row, following its 2025 NCHSAA 3A state crown. The Storm finished the two-day event with a collective 1-under 567, 11 strokes better than second-place Foard. Lake Norman Charter placed third with a 47-over 615.
Cramer placed three among the tournament’s top five, with junior player Lane Crotts earning the 4A individual state championship after shooting an 8-under 134. His two-day tally was three shots better than Wilkes Central’s Willis Eller, who finished with a 5-under 137. Down one shot to begin Tuesday’s round, Crotts shot a 7-under 64 to run away with a personal dose of state gold.

He is the second Storm player to claim state medalist honors, joining former Cramer standout and current Clemson golfer Rich Wills, who won the NCHSAA 3A individual title in 2024.
Storm golfers Britton Steede and Drew Mercer finished third and fifth, respectively, shooting a 2-under 140 and a 1-under 141. Ian Irish placed 15th after shooting a 10-over 152, with Trip Stacy’s 15-over 157 good for 25th.

- South Point’s quest for an NCHSAA 5A title fell six shots short, the Red Raiders finishing as state runner-up to Oak Grove. South Point shot a collective 32-over 600 at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington. Harley Green led the Red Raiders with an even-par 142, with Aidan McGinnis (9-over 151), Tyler Cunningham (12-over 154) and Will Monteith (13-over 155) also finishing among the event’s top 20. Crest’s Jack Brown (11-over 153) finished 15th; East Lincoln’s Carter Bolinger (18-over 160) placed 23rd; North Lincoln’s Trent Sammons (23-over 165) placed 30th; and Forestview’s Davis Spargo (34-over 176) was 41st.
- Cherryville’s Colton Robinson tied for second at the NCHSAA 2A state golf tournament at Gates Four Country Club in Fayetteville, winding up with a 5-over 149. Robinson was particularly strong in second round play, shooting a 1-under 71 during Tuesday, May 12 action. The Ironmen senior finished three shots behind Mitchell’s Bryce Miller. Mountain Island Charter’s Brody Belcher placed 10th after shooting a 12-over 156.
