Ohio State women's tennis advances to NCAA quarterfinals

The Ohio State Buckeyes women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament with a comprehensive win over Vanderbilt on Saturday, taking out the No. 14 seeded Commodores 4-1.
Given the way the Buckeyes finished the Big Ten Tournament, and given how good Vanderbilt is when healthy, many viewed the Commodores as a serious threat to upset the No. 3 Buckeyes. However, Ohio State banished any such hopes with a dominant showing on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.

The Buckeyes won the doubles point without trouble, winning two of the sets 6-1 and 6-3 (Ohio State led 4-3 on the third court, but that set went unfinished as the point was already secured). Three of the singles matches went to three sets, so the matches themselves weren't fully dominant, but neither Teah Chavez (who took first court for this match) nor Luciana Perry were ever actually at risk of losing. Perry was leading 5-0 in the third set of her match when Ohio State won the overall match anyway.
In Friday's quarterfinals in Athens, GA, the Buckeyes will face No. 11 Pepperdine. Pepperdine actually beat Ohio State 4-0 earlier in the season, but that was a road match for the Buckeyes, and actually Ohio State's worst match of the season. Expect the Buckeyes to be out for revenge, and setup a likely high-profile semifinal meeting with No. 2 seed Auburn.
