Michigan basketball recruit Brandon McCoy jumps to No. 3 in Rivals' rankings

Reranks can be fun, and they can be a bit diabolical, depending on how it goes in favor or against your team. For Michigan basketball, the former happens to be the case.

Rivals released and revealed the final five-stars of the 2026 recruiting cycle, and Bellflower (Calif.) Sierra Canyon combo guard Brandon McCoy, who was already a five-star according to the outlet, moved up even more. At the time of his commitment (which happened during the Final Four rout of Arizona), McCoy was ranked No. 11 in the country. It turns out, there is some room for improvement, as he moved up from 11th to 3rd overall in Rivals' final 2026 recruiting rankings for basketball.

The new ranking makes McCoy the top-rated combo guard in the country, and he's behind only small forward Tyran Stokes (Kansas) and shooting guard Caleb Holt (Arizona).

Power forward Quinn Costello moved up to No. 23 in the country, just shy of being a five-star (which cuts off after the 14th-ranked player). Guard Lincoln Cosby is ranked 37th. Shooting guard Joseph Hartman is 75th overall, while shooting guard Malachi Brown is a three-star without a Rivals numerical designation, and center Marcus Moller still remains unranked.

Rivals uses the Industry Composite to rank teams rather than its proprietary rankings, and in that, the Wolverines have the eighth-ranked team with the six signees.
