The veteran edge rusher enjoyed a career-best season in 2025, posting 7.5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss in his first season with New England. However, the Patriots passed on re-signing Chaisson in favor of signing edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones away from the Baltimore Ravens. Chaisson eventually signed a one-year, $11 million deal with the Washington Commanders.

This week, Chaisson shared a clip of the moment his agent informed him that New England would move on. The agent also told Chaisson why the Patriots let him walk.

"Just giving you a heads up, I talked to the Patriots -- I've been trying to get them to make an offer on you," the agent told Chaisson. " ... There thing was, ‘We love K’Lavon, we just need somebody that plays the run a little bit better.' "

Time will tell whether the Patriots were right to prioritize Jones over Chaisson, who seemingly was a great fit in Mike Vrabel's defense. But it's true that Chaisson occasionally struggled against the run, something Jones excels at.

The Patriots boosted their pass rush on Friday by selecting Illinois linebacker Gabe Jacas in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
