Auburn football QB Byrum Brown's biggest A-Day lesson? 'Play the next play'

· Yahoo Sports

AUBURN — That was hardly the debut fans of Auburn football would've hoped for from the program's touted transfer quarterback.

Byrum Brown didn't quite dazzle in Auburn's A-Day spring game, logging 85 passing yards while completing 50% of his attempts and throwing two interceptions without a touchdown recorded. But the fifth-year senior and formerly South Florida standout wasn't filled with concern following the conclusion of Auburn's spring.

"Lessons?" Brown said when asked about his performance. "Really just play the next play. That's it. That's all you can do. Don't worry about the last one. Focus on the next one," adding that it's, "hard to get in a rhythm when you're not fully live. That's a part of it, but I'll be fine. Looking forward to the first game, to be honest."

Brown struck a similar tone to his head coach, Alex Golesh, who said afterward the only winner from the day's action was the roster's bill of health, which walked away from a 66-43 result in the offense's favor unscathed.

As for the entire spring period, both Golesh and Brown were relatively optimistic about where the Tigers go from here.

"We grew a lot from Practice One to Practice 15," Brown said. "Tremendously different offense, defense, special teams. Everyone's bought in and continuing to buy in, so I think it's going to be a really good 2026 season."
