Frechette, along with relievers Kalib Smith and Trenten Taylor, combined for 15 strikeouts in all.
The Nighthawks carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, and the Spartans broke up the combined no-hit bid when Brody Macomber tripled to lead off the top of the seventh before scoring the lone Saranac run.
Kalib Smith accounted for three singles, Keegan Theriault a double and single, and Deacon Whitmarsh two singles for Peru. Taylor added a double.
“It’s always nice to start out the season with a victory, but we definitely have some things to work on as we move forward,” Peru coach Brian Marino said.
“We were able to put the bat on the ball today with 12 hits and only three strikeouts offensively. Jake, Kalib and Trenten did a good job throwing strikes and mixing their pitches.”
