Bednar was helped off the bench by a team trainer on Saturday at Ball Arena after an errant puck struck him in the side of the face. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation later in the evening and was not made available to media postgame.
Ahead of their flight to Edmonton, the team announced that Bednar sustained facial fractures and a corneal abrasion. He will not require surgery at this time and is expected to make a full recovery. There was no confirmation as of yet if he’ll be behind the bench in the regular-season home finale at Ball Arena next Thursday. Colorado plays the Oilers on Monday and in Calgary on Tuesday.
Bednar’s injury took place early in the third period. The accidental incident came off the stick of Vegas Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar. The Knights went on to win 3-2 in overtime.
Jack Ahcan Recalled
The team also recalled defenseman Jack Ahcan to take on the road. Avalanche blueliner Josh Manson left Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury and did not return. Ahcan will likely slot in for Manson unless Cale Makar is able to dress in one of the games.
It’s unclear as of Sunday afternoon whether Manson’s absence was precautionary or serious. The 34-year-old defenseman has played all 79 games to date, which is the most he’s had since 2017-18. He has five goals and 31 points, and a career-high +42 rating.
