The Detroit Red Wings had to finish their latest game without their most valuable player.

Goaltender John Gibson left midway through the second period on Thursday, April 9, shortly after the Phialdelphia Flyers had scored to edge within two goals of the Wings. There was nothing directly that happened at that time, at 10:40, but Gibson did absorb a hit early in the period when Flyers forward Owen Tippett knocked down Gibson. Tippett was penalized on the play.

The Wings have three games left after Thursday: Saturday against the New Jersey Devils, Monday at the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Wednesday at the Florida Panthers.
