Indore News: Fair Price Shop Licence Suspended, Two Booked For Ration Diversion

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Food and Civil Supplies Department suspended the licence of a fair price shop (FPS) and registered a case against two individuals, including the shop vendor, following a crackdown on the illegal diversion of government-subsidised ration.

Acting on a tip-off, officials caught Mohammad Sahil riding a scooter in the Chhatribagh area while illegally transporting 1.47 quintals of government-fortified rice.
During questioning, Sahil said he had purchased the rice from a fair price shop in Tatpatti Bakhal. This led to an inspection of the Shri Ram Primary Cooperative Consumer Store, where officials found significant stock discrepancies, including excess stock of 1.24 quintals of rice, 3.48 quintals of wheat and 3.73 quintals of salt.
The investigation confirmed that the shop’s vendor, Mayur Darade, had been selling government supplies to unauthorised persons. The shop’s authorisation was suspended and a case registered against Darade and Sahil under the Essential Commodities Act.
The department is also reviewing Sahil’s ration card, which will be cancelled if further irregularities in his Public Distribution System (PDS) eligibility are found.
