Alabama strolled into the Sweet 16 on Sunday night without any issues.

The Crimson Tide cruised to a 90-65 blowout win over Texas Tech to officially wrap up the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday night in Tampa, Florida. The win sends Alabama into the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight season and the fifth time in six years in what’s been a strong stretch for the longtime football powerhouse.

This game was Alabama’s from the jump. Texas Tech, still playing without star JT Toppin after his ACL injury last month, never really stood much of a chance.

Alabama jumped to a 26-10 run almost immediately, and used a massive 19-3 run to get there. Texas Tech missed four of its first 15 shot attempts, and struggled to get much of anything going. Alabama almost doubled up Texas Tech at halftime, when it took a 49-25 lead into the break. The Red Raiders made just 10 combined field goals in the first 20 minutes.

By then, the contest was over. Alabama simply held on the rest of the way in the second half to secure the win. Texas Tech never came close to threatening the Tide’s lead.

Latrell Wrightsell led Alabama with 24 points after he went 6-of-9 from the 3-point line. Houston Mallette added 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench, and Amari Allen finished with 12 points. The Tide made 19 3-pointers; Texas Tech made four. LeJuan Watts led the Red Raiders with 16 points and seven rebonds, and Donovan Atwell added 12 points.

Alabama will now enter the Sweet 16 with back-to-back blowout wins under its belt. The Tide beat Hofstra by 20 points in their first-round matchup in similar fashion to Sunday night’s performance.

Their Sweet 16 matchup, however, is sure to be much more competitive. Alabama will go up against No. 1 Michigan next on Friday night in Chicago. The Wolverines, who won the Big Ten’s regular-season title before falling to Purdue in the conference tournament championship, are also coming off back-to-back blowouts. They beat Howard 101-80 in the first round, and then powered past Saint Louis without any issue Saturday.

Michigan looks like a true national title contender, and has for most of the season. These two teams match up much, much better than any of the combined four opponents they’ve faced so far in the tournament. Don’t expect another blowout on Friday night.
