The Minnesota Vikings' quarterbacks room got a lot more interesting after the signing of veteran signal-caller Kyler Murray.

With Murray in town, third-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy has competition for the starting job, and it's safe to bet on him losing that competition after what we witnessed out of the former first-round pick last season.
If that scenario unfolds, one has to wonder if the Vikings might consider turning around and trading McCarthy, who would then basically have no future with Minnesota.
That's a scenario Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has strongly considered and he has suggested a trade between the Vikings and Arizona Cardinals that would send McCarthy to the desert.
"In Arizona, McCarthy can learn from Brissett and Minshew while competing against them. The Cardinals would have a developmental signal-caller with room for growth and no obligation to start him right away," Moton writes.
The Cardinals struck out on quarterbacks in free agency and are now left with a duo of Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. It goes without saying there isn't any semblance of hope for the future in Arizona's quarterbacks room right now.
McCarthy would at least give Arizona that.
Granted, the jury is still very much out on McCarthy after a bad first season as a starter, but if he can rebound in Arizona, the Cardinals will have their guy.
If he doesn't, the Cardinals will be awful again in 2026 but in position to take one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 NFL draft. It's really a win-win situation for Arizona.
Taking it a step further, the Cardinals could unload one of their quarterbacks in the trade, which would give the Vikings the backup they would need if McCarthy is dealt.
We wouldn't expect the Vikings to pull the trigger on such a trade until they see how the competition between McCarthy and Murray plays out, but all bets are likely off if the Michigan product falls short.
