Family killed in Israeli airstrike
The suspect had reportedly lost four family members in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon last week, authorities said Friday.
An airstrike killed four people and wounded one in Mashghararh on March 5, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Ghazali’s two brothers, a niece and a nephew were killed at their home as they were having their fast-breaking meal during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, The Associated Press reported.
A Mashgharah official told the news outlet that Kassim and Ibrahim Ghazali, along with Ibrahim’s children, Ali and Fatima, were killed.
Ibrahim’s wife was wounded and remains in hospital.
The official said Kassim was a well-known soccer coach and personal trainer in the village, while Ibrahim was a school bus driver. Ghazali’s father was in the U.S. and had recently returned to Lebanon, the official told AP.
FBI searches Michigan home
Overnight on Thursday, armed FBI agents investigated a home believed to be connected to Ghazali.
Agents used a battering ram tool to break the front window of a brick home in Dearborn Heights. Authorities told news outlet WJBK that they were conducting a search warrant.
The overnight raid came hours after the attack at Temple Israel, the second attack at a house of worship in Michigan within the past year.
In September, an ex-Marine shot four people and set a church on fire near Detroit, an incident the FBI said was motivated by “anti-religious beliefs” against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, AP reported.
