The Boston Bruins had their home winning streak snapped at 13 games on Thursday.
Boston had been playing stellar hockey at home, but on Thursday, the Bruins struggled en route to a 4-2 home loss to the San Jose Sharks. Boston traded 4-0 nearly midway through the third period before Fraser Minten and David Pastrnak scored, but it was too little too late, as head coach Marco Sturm felt like the team wasn’t as sharp and missed their chances.
“We were just looking for that one goal,” Sturm said as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “I think it just didn’t happen for maybe too long.
“It was just a little bit off today. We just weren’t as sharp, and they took advantage. We had the chances early on, and we couldn’t score. That was the hockey game.”
The loss was a disappointing one as Boston is in a tight playoff race in the Eastern Conference. Yet, despite the loss, Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm said the team still has full confidence in its group.
“A lot of belief in this group,” Lindholm said. “I think we have some really good pieces, some great guys, and, like I said, we’ve been playing some good hockey all year. We just have to keep doing it on the road here.”
With the loss, the Bruins fell to 36-23-6 and are just one point up on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final Wild Card spot. Boston will return to the ice on Saturday on the road against the Washington Capitals.
