Reports of the Patriots' interest in A.J. Brown via trade and Alec Pierce as a free agent have likely crowded feeds of Patriots fans all over the country. The NFL's legal tampering window opens at noon on Monday, and Pierce could agree to a deal soon. Players can start agreeing to deals at noon, but nothing can be made official until Wednesday.
Pierce is the top name among wide receivers on the open market, and the New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy predicted he would end up signing with the Patriots over other suitors.
"Speed kills," Dunleavy wrote of Pierce. "Led the league in yards per catch two years running. Never reached 50 catches in a season but has 13 touchdowns since 2024. Wants WR1 target share. QB Daniel Jones’ transition-tag designation could force Pierce out of Indianapolis."
There are plenty of reasons to think Pierce will not be back with the Indianapolis Colts next season. Dunleavy listed the New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens as suitors for him besides the Patriots. However, New England may be the most attractive destination.
The Patriots are coming off a Super Bowl run, have last season's MVP runner-up, have money to spend and could give Pierce his desired target share. Pierce had his first 1,000-yard season last season despite playing with multiple quarterbacks. He could find continuity and stability with Maye.
