The New England Patriots were reportedly in for Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, but it was the Baltimore Ravens who won the race for his signature.

With the Patriots under Mike Vrabel, a good defensive team, more is needed, and having Crosby as a key piece of New England's defense in 2026 would have given them some serious firepower.

But it appears that former Patriot Tom Brady, who owns a minority stake in the Raiders, might have had something to do with Crosby not becoming a Patriot.

Well, at least according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who spoke with a person involved with the Crosby trade.

"One person involved in the trade made an interesting point about the Patriots' chances at Crosby: 'No way Tom [Brady] was sending Maxx to [Mike] Vrabel," Fowler wrote.

Patriots fine without Crosby

Yes, getting Crosby would have been a great move for the Patriots, but it isn't the be-all and end-all.

There are still plenty of top-quality players available in free agency, and if the Patriots were going after Crosby, they have cap space.

So instead of getting one dominant player, New England can now look to get two or three players for the same price.

Yes, the Patriots are fine without Maxx, but the thought of him with Vrabel, it appears, was something Brady didn't want to happen.
