Slot explains Liverpool’s struggles on the wings
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot spoken about the difficult period facing Mohamed Salah and the team stressing that the problem is collective rather than individual.
the Dutch manager said that criticism of Salah & Cody Gakpo is unfair. The two attacker have scored 11 goal combined this season but Slot believes the main issue lies in how the team is creating chances.
According to the coach, Liverpool have not been moving the ball wide quickly enough and have struggled to put their wingers in open attacking situations which limits their ability to score.
“It’s a team issue, not Salah’s form”
Slot explained that the role of a winger is one of the hardest in modern football. He said that when a team fails to create space on the wings, it becomes difficult for attacking players to produce goals and assists.
He added that Liverpool must improve the speed of their play and switch the direction of attacks faster to help their wide players. Slot also pointed out that the shortage of top-scoring wingers is not limited to Liverpool but can be seen across many leagues.
The coach mentioned Barcelona as one of the few teams producing strong numbers from the wings, thanks in part to young star Lamine Yamal.
