New Orleans Saints won't play in 2026 Hall of Fame preseason game

This is disappointing, but not too surprising. Legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be enshrined at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio this summer as a member of the Class of 2026 -- but his old team won't be featured in the corresponding preseason game played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

All of the Saints fans flying into town to hear Brees deliver his enshrinement speech and see his bronze bust unveiled with their own eyes won't be staying very long without a football game to attend. The Advocate's Jeff Duncan first reported the news that the Saints were passed over for the year's first exhibition game, which was confirmed by NewOrleans.Football's Mike Triplett.

So what's the deal? A busy Saints summer travel schedule may have played a part in this decision, which was made by the league office. The black and gold will already be traveling for two preseason games on the road, and they're also planning to spend a week practicing in southern California. Starting training camp a week early and putting another road trip in there would be challenging, so NFL decisionmakers in New York chose to go in another direction. At least it wasn't a case of the Saints giving their fans the short end of the stick.
