Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith will stand trial next fall on a charge of sexual assault after his lawyer pleaded not guilty on his behalf Thursday in a Nova Scotia courtroom.
The 53-year-old actor and musician, who plays Bubbles on the long-running Canadian comedy series, was not in attendance during the proceedings with defence lawyer Stan MacDonald filing the plea in his stead.

A pre-trial conference will be held in May before Smith’s case returns to a Halifax courtroom for a three-day trial between Oct. 1 and Oct. 5, the Halifax Chronicle Herald reported.
The complainant’s identity remains protected by a publication ban.
Charge stems from alleged incident in December 2017
The New Glasgow, N.S., native was charged by Halifax Regional Police in October 2025 after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the Dartmouth area on Dec. 30, 2017. He was released on an undertaking requiring him to have no contact with the alleged victim and to stay away from her home, school and workplace.
MacDonald did not speak to reporters after Thursday’s hearing, the Chronicle Herald reported, but he emphasized in November the allegations against his client had not been proven.
“This is an allegation at this point … It’ll be tried in court, it won’t be tried in the media,” MacDonald said.
“In the meantime, we ask that the privacy of everyone involved be respected.”

Smith stepped down from Trailer Park Boys Inc.
Crown attorney Bryson McDonald did not say how many witnesses the prosecution expects to call when the trial begins.
“The only one we know with certainty would be the complainant,” McDonald said.
Smith stepped down as a managing director of the Nova Scotia-based company Trailer Park Boys Inc. after the charges were announced. The company, which produces its namesake show, said there would be no further comment on the case.
“We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved,” the statement said at the time, while announcing Smith’s departure.
