The Washington Commanders made a shocking move on Thursday while the NFL world was in Indianapolis for the 2026 NFL combine. Washington released starting center Tyler Biadasz after two seasons with the team.
Biadasz, 28, had one year remaining on the three-year contract he signed in March 2024. He is now eligible to sign elsewhere ahead of the new league year, which begins on March 11.

A fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft, Biadasz played four seasons in Dallas, becoming a starter late in his rookie season. In four years, Biadasz appeared in 61 games, starting 53. He was selected to the 2022 Pro Bowl.
Biadasz would follow former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to Washington, signing a three-year, $30 million contract. In two seasons with the Commanders, Biadasz started 31 games, missing three due to injury.

Biadasz's release is surprising. For one, Biadasz was considered a cornerstone for Washington's offensive line, which is viewed as one of the team's strengths. Secondly, he was supposed to count $10.9 million against the salary cap in 2026, with a salary of $8.3 million. Washington incurs a dead money charge of $8.1 million for 2026 and saves only $2.8 million against the cap, per Over the Cap.
Biadasz earned a 70.7 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025, including a 71.2 run-blocking grade and a 67.3 pass-blocking grade. His 70.7 overall grade was ranked No. 11 among the 40 centers graded in 2026.
This release opens a significant need for the Commanders. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil, right guard Sam Cosmi and right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. all return in 2026. Brandon Coleman and Andrew Wylie will also return. However, left guard Chris Paul is a free agent, opening up two spots on Washington's starting offensive line. Either Coleman or Wylie could start at left guard if Paul departs.
